Clemson Pulled Off A Fantastic Trick Play Vs Georgia Tech



I'm still lost how Clemson pulled off this play and I've watched it 15 times. I can only imagine how Georgia Tech felt.

Shouldn't that be illegal motion, both QB and RB start to move at same time and QB never stops until ball is snapped

No, only the QB was in motion. Nobody else moved. The RB was set at the snap.

Sure looks like illegal shift to me. The QB never set for a full second after both he and the RB moved.

QB doesn't need to be set, he's moving laterally. RB was set prior to snap. Not illegal shift.

"After a huddle or shift, all 11 players of the offense shall come to an absolute stop and shall remain stationary simultaneously without movement of hands, feet, head or body for at least one second before the snap."

"Only one offensive player may be in motion at the snap and then only if such motion is not toward his opponent's goal line."

"If two or more players shift at the same time, then they must both become set before the ball is snapped."

After the huddle all players are set, then the QB and back both move together and the back stops but the QB doesn't which makes in an illegal shift and should be a live ball penalty.

It wasn't illegal motion becuase the QB was not shifting, shifting refers to what the RB did and say a WR moving to the other side etc, not a QB seemingly moving calling an audible, that is not a shift in formation.
